A British Summer Season
A Whole Weekend of Polo at Beaufort
Did you spot the Arkell & Wills team at last weekend’s Beaufort Polo Festival in Gloucestershire on 10th and 11th June? Always an enjoyable family-friendly event, it’s also known as the Gloucestershire Festival of Polo. People come for the first-class polo and the chance of spotting some of the Royal family, but of course they take the opportunity to enjoy food concessions and a little retail therapy. Who can blame them?
A Busy Summer at Blenheim
Blenheim Castle hosts an array of events, including the renowned Flower Show (23-25th June) and BBC Countryfile Live (3-6th August).
From 13-17th September, equine enthusiasts head for the International Horse Trials, which features some of the world’s top eventers in cross country, show jumping and dressage. All this in the stunning setting of the palace grounds in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds.
Cowdray: A Whole Lot More Polo
Polo is the theme again at Cowdray. Matches at various standards take place throughout the summer. The top event is the Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup, starting on 27th June, and Arkell & Wills will be at the Gold Cup final on 23rd July. Come along, say hello and let us introduce you to our range of cashmere. We always love to meet our customers and get their feedback on why they love our products.
Style Meets Tradition at Henley
A firm fixture in the social calendar for many years is the Henley Regatta, which this year is from 28th June – 2nd July. Sipping Pimms and showing off elegant summer frocks and classy boating-themed attire is de rigueur for the ladies and men. There’s also the pleasure of admiring the sporting prowess of the oarsmen and women as they power past your picnic spot on the banks of the Thames.
Quiet, Ladies and Gentlemen, Please!
Summer wouldn’t be summer in England without tennis and the top-ranking players have their first outing at the Queen’s Club Tennis Tournament from 19th – 25th June. Hot on the heels of Queen’s comes the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, this year from 3rd – 16th July. Even in June, the weather can be unpredictable, so tucking a lightweight cashmere sweater into your bag is both sensible and practical, ensuring you remain stylish and warm as the competition heats up.
Traditional Circus Entertainment
A magical, comic treat for all the family, Gifford’s Circus is a traditional showman’s circus brought up to date with a unique twist. This year, the production is Any Port in a Storm, which features an enthralling storyline, with comedy from the unmissable Tweedy the Clown, acrobatics and dancing horses - not forgetting the sumptuous Circus Sauce restaurant. Performances take place at various venues from May – September 2017. Check the Gifford’s Circus website for details and to buy tickets.
Back on the Water
Cowes Week from 29 July – 5th August is another thrilling water sport festival but this time the opportunity to participate. All you need is your own yacht… There are many categories and races that you could compete in – or you could just relax close to the action with a glass of something chilled, breathe in the sea air and watch the excitement from the deck.
The 2017 Open Golf Championship takes place at Turnberry, Ayrshire from 13th – 17th July. Scotland has a reputation for rain and wild weather but a waterproof/ cashmere combination will be light to carry when the sun blazes down – which is just as likely to be the case in July. Golfing enthusiasts won’t want to miss this opportunity to get close to their sporting idols, whatever the weather.
